Quartiles based on CiteScore

CiteScore is a metric developed by Elsevier to evaluate the citation impact of scientific journals. It calculates the number of citations received in a given year of a published document, the calculation of the calculation can be seen here. The metric covers all types of documents and citations are tracked from multiple sources. Every year, CiteScore values are updated, allowing comparisons between journals in the same field or across different disciplines. Journals are categorized into quartiles based on their CiteScore, with Quartile 1 being the highest “impact” journal category. CiteScore helps researchers identify high impact journals and institutions measure the visibility of their research. CiteScore data is publicly available and transparent, and the calculation methods and data sources used are explained to ensure accuracy and reliability. Here is an example of a preview of CiteScore values from the calculation process to the quartile grouping of a journal:

CiteScore metrics are used to help in several ways, including: gathering evidence about the relevance and performance of a journal in a field, checking the performance of a journal, analyzing the citation impact of a journal in library subscription decisions, determining the impact of research in a particular field, and to monitor the performance of a journal or portfolio of journals and publishing trends among competing journals. By using CiteScore, publishers and editors can easily monitor and evaluate the performance of their publications and make informed decisions regarding placement and publishing strategies. This metric is useful for measuring and understanding the impact of scholarly work in various contexts, thus helping in the development of publication strategies and decision-making related to research and publishing.
