Alain Takam’s research focuses on language policy and planning, particularly on minority language promotion and revitalization through education and the media. He is also interested in contact linguistics, language variation, the sociolinguistics of translation and socio-pragmatics. He is currently working on a research project that is aimed at comparing the achievements, issues and prospects of the teaching of the minority official language in technical and vocational education in Canada and Cameroon. He has extensive teaching experience both at the high school level (2000-2005) and university level (since 2005). Prior to joining the University of Waterloo, he has taught French as a second language and/or Linguistics at Dalhousie University, Mount Saint Vincent University, Saint Mary’s University, Université Sainte Anne and Lakehead University.
