WE ARE LOOKING FOR A STUDENT INTERESTED TO DO PHD IN THE FOLLOWING PROJECT:
• 01-01-02-SF0791 (RM 107,300):
“DEVELOPING AN AUTOMATED ASSISTANT FOR COMPUTING INTEGRALS OVER POLYNOMIALLY DEFINED REGIONS AND THEIR BOUNDARIES USING A COMPUTER ALGEBRA SYSTEM (CAS).”
Basically, the Cylindrical Algebraic Decomposition (CAD) algorithms for computing integrals over polynomial defined regions and their boundaries in 2 and 3 Dimensions have been developed. But our primary concern is to produce an automated tool that can assist users such as engineers, educationist, mathematicians and researchers in solving this type of problem. The user might want to know some of the intermediate results (not just the end results) without his intervention during the solving process. In other words, when a problem occurs in the solving process, this tool has the potential to detect where the problem arises and the user can recommend necessary steps on how to solve it. The CAD algorithms published in the Journal of Mathematics and Computers in Simulation 82 (2011) 79-101, ISSN 0378-4754. International Association for Mathematics and Computers in Simulations (IMACS) (available online at www.sciencedirect.com.): J. Wester, Y. Yaacob & S. Steinberg, wouldn’t be able to do this. Therefore, significant changes need to be made to the existing CAD algorithms.
Furthermore, we also add multimedia representations to assist the user to have a better view of the problems in 2D and 3D. Additionally, we apply the CAS pedagogical concepts in this tool to make it more user friendly and enhance the user understanding of the problem (refer “Towards the Development of an Automated Learning Assistant for Vector Calculus: Integration over Planar Regions”.
